Feeling Stuck: An IT Professional’s Struggle to Find a Solution

Troubleshooting a Disappearing GPU: A Tech Journey

As an IT professional, I often find myself navigating the challenges of hardware and software issues. Recently, I encountered a particularly puzzling situation with a used laptop I purchased from my previous employer. Equipped with an Nvidia 3060 GPU, the laptop performed smoothly for the first two weeks, but then suddenly, it ceased to recognize the graphics card.

In my quest to resolve the issue, I’ve undertaken several troubleshooting steps. I kicked off the process by reinstalling the latest drivers, hoping to restore functionality. When that didn’t yield results, I proceeded to update the BIOS and even rolled back both BIOS and Windows updates to previous versions in a bid to identify any conflicts.

I’ve also explored the option of uninstalling the drivers completely, only to revert to older versions in the hopes of finding a compatible fit. In a last-ditch effort, I reinstalled Windows entirely and tried reverting to previous iterations of the operating system.

Despite these meticulous efforts, the GPU remains a mystery. While the Device Manager acknowledges its presence, no software seems to recognize or utilize it. It’s a frustrating conundrum that leaves me seeking insights from fellow tech enthusiasts.

If you’ve faced a similar dilemma or have suggestions on additional steps to troubleshoot this issue, your expertise would be greatly appreciated. Let’s collaborate to unravel this tech puzzle together!
