Has anyone experienced a black window that isn’t Command Prompt?

Troubleshooting a Mysterious Black Window on Windows: A Personal Experience

Have you ever stumbled upon an unusual black window on your screen that doesn’t resemble the usual Command Prompt? I recently faced this peculiar issue, initially suspecting it was a dead pixel. However, to my surprise, I discovered I could manipulate it with my mouse, which piqued my curiosity further.

In my quest to identify this strange phenomenon, I opened the Task Manager to inspect the active applications, but everything appeared normal; nothing seemed out of the ordinary. This bizarre window resembled the Command Prompt when my cursor hovered over text fields, but it wasn’t quite the same—it had a somewhat transparent quality and could be dragged and resized.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to share any visuals directly in my post, but if you’re interested, you can check out this link to see the oddity.

Given the mysterious nature of the window, I began to wonder whether it could be a result of malware. The unsettling thought crossed my mind: should I consider a clean reinstall of Windows?

Update on My Findings

Following the insightful suggestion from fellow Redditor u/Slapbox, I decided to download Process Explorer to dig deeper. This handy tool allowed me to trace the elusive blank window back to the voice recognition feature of One Dragon Center. This was unexpected, considering I typically only use Dragon Center to adjust my RGB lighting for social media.

After uninstalling the application, I performed a restart, and I’m pleased to report that the strange window has disappeared for good. A huge thank you to everyone who offered guidance along the way; your support was invaluable!

If you ever encounter something similar on your own system, remember to explore options cautiously and utilize tools like Process Explorer. While it may seem daunting at first, a little investigation can often lead you to a simple solution!
