Reviving a Vintage Laptop: A Fun Learning Tool for My Child
In an exciting new project, I recently refurbished my 12-year-old laptop and installed Ubuntu on it. This charming piece of technology has found a new purpose as a learning tool for my 4-year-old daughter. It’s a fantastic opportunity for her to begin her journey in typing and writing.
One of my goals is to make the laptop as user-friendly as possible for her. I want to streamline her experience, particularly by having it open directly into a text editor upon startup. This will allow her to dive straight into writing without the need to navigate with a mouse—something that can be quite daunting for a young learner. I’m currently exploring the best methods to set this up, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Additionally, I’ve been curious about the possibility of configuring the device to always start with the Caps Lock activated. This could make typing easier for her, especially when she’s just getting accustomed to using the keyboard.
