I can actually hear my neighbor reading aloud what’s displayed on my monitor.

Concerned About My Neighbor’s Connectivity: Is My Router Compromised?

In an unsettling experience, I’ve found myself questioning the security of my home network. Lately, I’ve had an eerie sensation that my neighbor can hear me reading content displayed on my computer screen. This led me to suspect that my router might have been compromised.

The security settings currently in place on my router are WEP, which I’ve read is quite outdated and not particularly secure. Given that I’ve been unable to access my router’s settings—receiving a persistent message that my attempt to connect “took too long”—my concerns only deepened.

To investigate the issue, I’ve taken several precautionary measures. I’ve utilized tools like HijackThis, Malwarebytes (specifically the anti-rootkit version), and Wireless Network Watcher. Despite these efforts, I haven’t discovered anything that explicitly indicates an intrusion.

I’m currently working on a Windows 7 laptop, and would greatly appreciate any insights or recommendations from fellow tech enthusiasts on how to ensure my network security and privacy. Your advice could be invaluable in resolving this unsettling situation!
