My wife received the “Your Computer Has Been Locked” malware message directing her to call 833-324-0303, and when she contacted the number, the caller claimed to be a Microsoft representative.

Navigating Computer Threats: A Cautionary Tale

Recently, my wife encountered a worrying situation when her computer became afflicted with a “Your computer has been locked up” virus. During this incident, she was prompted to call a number — 833-324-0303 — by someone claiming to represent Microsoft.

Naturally, I advised her to restart her device. When she inquired about the legitimacy of the caller and where she could find their official site, the representative swiftly dismissed her question, stating, “This is how we operate; having a website doesn’t matter.”

Fortunately, after rebooting her Apple computer, the alarming message disappeared. Reflecting on my own experiences with Windows devices, I’ve noticed that similar incidents have occurred from time to time over the years, and a simple restart has consistently resolved those issues.

I’m reaching out to the community for any insights or advice on handling these types of situations effectively. Have you or someone you know dealt with a similar issue? How did you manage it?

Thank you for your feedback!
