I recently took on the rewarding challenge of breathing new life into a 12-year-old laptop by installing Ubuntu. This refurbished device is now set to become my four-year-old daughter’s very first laptop, providing her with an opportunity to explore typing and writing in a fun and engaging way.

One of my main goals is to make this learning experience as seamless as possible for her. To achieve this, I’m seeking advice on how to configure the laptop to open directly into a text editor upon startup. This would allow her to dive right into her creative endeavors without the need to navigate with a mouse, making the process simpler and more intuitive for a young child.

Additionally, I have a technical question: Is there a way to set the laptop to start with the Caps Lock key activated? This feature could enhance her initial typing experience, particularly as she learns to recognize and write uppercase letters.
