Reviving an Old Laptop: A Perfect First Computer for My Child
I’m excited to share my recent project of refurbishing my 12-year-old laptop and giving it a new lease on life by installing Ubuntu. This makes it the perfect first computer for my four-year-old daughter! My goal is to create a simple and engaging environment where she can learn how to type and express her thoughts through writing.
One challenge I’m currently tackling is how to make the laptop boot directly into a text editor. This would eliminate the need for her to navigate with a mouse at this stage, allowing her to focus solely on her writing. If anyone has tips or methods for setting up Ubuntu to open a specific application on startup, your insights would be greatly appreciated!
Additionally, I’m curious about a small feature: is it possible to configure the laptop to start with the Caps Lock key activated? This could help in her learning process as she navigates through her typing activities.
I’m looking forward to your recommendations, and I’ll keep you posted on our journey with this newfound tool for creativity and learning!
