My wife received a “Your Computer Is Locked” virus message directing her to call 833-324-0303, and when she contacted them, they claimed to be Microsoft representatives.

Navigating the “Your Computer Has Been Locked Up” Virus: A Cautionary Tale

Recently, my wife encountered a troubling situation involving a virus that locked her computer, displaying a warning message urging her to call 833-324-0303. Upon reaching out, she found herself speaking with someone claiming to represent Microsoft.

In the midst of the chaos, I advised her to restart her computer—a simple yet effective troubleshooting technique. When she inquired about the official website for the so-called Microsoft representative, he insisted, “This is the way we do it—having a site doesn’t help.”

Fortunately, after restarting her Apple computer, the alarming message disappeared. Reflecting on this incident, I recalled that a similar situation has occurred occasionally on my Windows computers, roughly every year or two. In every instance, powering off and turning the machine back on has resolved the issue.

I’m curious to hear from others who may have had similar experiences or insights regarding this type of malware. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
