Mysterious Black Window: A Closer Look at Possible Causes
Have you ever stumbled upon a puzzling black window on your screen that isn’t quite the Command Prompt? This intriguing issue recently caught my attention, prompting a deeper investigation into its origins.
Initially, I mistook this peculiar window for a dead pixel, as it lacked any discernible content. However, the situation took a turn when I inadvertently dragged it with my mouse, revealing its curious nature. Concerned, I turned to the Task Manager to uncover any suspicious applications running in the background, but found nothing alarming.
The mysterious window resembled the Command Prompt when hovering over interactive areas, yet it was somewhat transparent and exhibited a drag-and-stretch behavior. As I attempted to resolve the mystery, I took the liberty of sharing images online for further insights. You can view them here: Weird window – Imgur.
Is this an indication of malware? Do I need to consider a complete reinstall of Windows? Those pressing questions remained unanswered, leading me to seek the advice of the community.
The Revelation
Thanks to a helpful suggestion from user u/Slapbox, I downloaded Process Explorer, a utility that provides a more detailed view of system processes. This tool led me to uncover that the unsettling black window was linked to the voice recognition feature of an application called One Dragon Center. Despite initially using this software exclusively for RGB lighting customization on my devices, it seems to have created this odd occurrence.
After deciding to uninstall One Dragon Center and rebooting my system, I was relieved to find that the black window issue had been resolved.
