During quarantine, I attempted to view 4K VR videos from Pornhub Premium for research purposes, but they refused to play.

Troubleshooting 4K VR Video Playback: A Quarantine Dilemma

During my time in quarantine, I decided to explore some of the captivating 4K VR content available with my new Pornhub Premium subscription. The opportunity to experience adult entertainment in stunning resolution was enticing. However, I quickly encountered a frustrating issue: the videos I downloaded won’t play correctly on any of my devices.

After successfully downloading a handful of premium 4K VR .mp4 files—each exceeding 1GB—I attempted to watch them on my PC. While the audio came through without a hitch, the video displayed nothing but a blank screen, with occasional distortions near the top and moments when the entire display turned green. To compound my frustration, the video player would freeze intermittently. I tried both VLC Media Player and MPC-HC, but the playback issues persisted, leading me to suspect that the files might be corrupted.

My primary goal was to view these videos using the Mobile VR Station app for a mobile VR headset. Unfortunately, I was met with a “Cannot decode” error when attempting to play them through the app, rendering my plans in VR pointless.

I reached out in hopes of finding a solution, as the situation felt quite urgent!

Update on the Situation

After a bit of further troubleshooting, I discovered an interesting twist: the problem appeared to be isolated to the Mobile VR Station app on iOS. To my relief, the same videos played flawlessly on a Windows device using the system’s default video player and in VLC after disabling hardware encoding.

The pursuit of a more reliable mobile app to play these videos was now my priority.

Seeking Alternatives

My first attempt to find a better solution led me to test the SKYBOX VR Video Player for iOS. Though it promised to be an improved option, I encountered yet another hurdle; while the audio played perfectly, the video remained a frustrating black screen.

If anyone has recommendations for mobile VR applications that support 4K video playback effectively, your assistance would be greatly appreciated!
