Is My VPN Giving Me “Free” Internet After ISP Disconnection?
In an unexpected turn of events, I’ve discovered that even after my Internet Service Provider (ISP) disconnected my service due to non-payment, I can still access the web seamlessly when I use my VPN. Specifically, I’m subscribed to ExpressVPN, and this situation has left me both curious and slightly bewildered.
Recently, I’ve been juggling my financial obligations, and this month my ISP decided to cut my service for late payments. However, upon connecting to my VPN, I noticed that my internet connection miraculously resumed functioning. This has me questioning: Am I tapping into some kind of loophole, or is there a logical explanation behind this?
Upon further reflection, it seems that while my ISP may have cut off my service, it has not been able to restrict access when I route my traffic through a VPN. Yet, this situation feels precarious at best. I realize that it’s just a matter of time before my account is completely marked as terminated.
In a conversation with a customer service representative, I expressed my intentions to settle my outstanding balance. The rep indicated that I might be able to maintain this workaround for a limited time, pending any major changes from the ISP’s end. This revelation adds an intriguing layer to my predicament.
In essence, while utilizing a VPN has surprisingly allowed me to regain Internet access, I remain aware that this is not a sustainable solution. It poses ethical questions about internet access and provider policies, and it highlights the tension between customers and ISPs. I’ll need to resolve my billing situation sooner rather than later, but for the time being, I’m compelled to ponder the implications of this technical unexpected advantage!
