Troubleshooting PC Failures After a Lightning Strike: A Cautionary Tale
Experiencing a lightning strike can be alarming, particularly when it affects your cherished computer. At this point, the computer was still with the technician, and anxiety set in. Would I be facing a total loss? I feared the motherboard may have succumbed to the lightning’s wrath. The router, which was also connected, was out of commission, adding to my concern. Thankfully, I noticed there was no burning smell emanating from within the case, but uncertainty lingered heavily.
To my surprise and relief, I soon received word from the technician. The culprit turned out to be the motherboard, which had indeed been fried by the surge. Thankfully, that was the extent of the damage.
This experience has been both a lesson learned and a reminder of the value of surge protectors for electronic devices. If you find yourself in a similar predicament, do not lose hope.
