Has anyone seen a black window appear that isn’t Command Prompt?

Encountering a Mysterious Black Window: Insights and Solutions

Have you ever come across a perplexing black window on your computer that seemingly has no connection to the Command Prompt?

Recently, I experienced a curious incident that left me puzzled. Initially, I mistook the anomaly for a dead pixel on my display. However, as I inadvertently dragged it using my mouse, I realized it was something entirely different. After examining my task manager for any unusual applications, I found nothing that raised any red flags.

To describe this strange window, it appeared when my cursor hovered over text entry fields. It had a somewhat transparent quality and could be resized, resembling a command line interface but without any actual functionality. Unfortunately, I couldn’t share a direct image, but if you’re curious, here’s a link to what I gathered: Weird window – Imgur.

Could this oddity be a sign of malware? I found myself contemplating whether a complete clean installation of Windows was necessary.

Update: Uncovering the Source

Thanks to a helpful suggestion from Reddit user u/Slapbox, I decided to run Process Explorer to investigate further. To my surprise, I discovered that this elusive black window was linked to the voice recognition feature of One Dragon Center. This application typically serves my needs for customizing RGB lighting—primarily for my Instagram and Pinterest posts.

After confirming the source of the issue, I uninstalled the program, and a quick restart assured me that everything was back to normal.

It’s amazing how a little troubleshooting can demystify what seems like a significant problem! If you find yourself in a similar situation, don’t hesitate to dig deeper; you might just uncover the root of the mystery. Thank you to everyone who offered their insights and assistance!
