Could my father be spying on my phone when I’m at home?

Is Someone Hacking My Phone? A Disturbing Discovery

Recently, I stumbled upon a troubling situation that has left me questioning my privacy and security. While I may not be particularly tech-savvy, I felt compelled to share my experience in hopes of receiving some guidance.

Living about 40 minutes away from my parents, I noticed that my mother has been increasingly concerned about my father’s over-involvement in her personal matters. During a recent visit, she discovered an unusual USB device—one with a button and a switch on it. Out of sheer curiosity, I plugged it into my laptop, only to be shocked by what it contained: recordings of my mother, as well as audio of conversations I had with my sister and my boyfriend earlier that same day, all captured without my knowledge.

To clarify, neither my mother nor I have ever granted my father access to our devices. I use a Galaxy Note 9, while my mother has a newer iPhone. This raises alarming questions about the extent of my father’s capabilities in monitoring us, especially since I am in my own home.

While I do not possess advanced technical knowledge, I am desperate to understand how this could happen and what measures I can take to protect my privacy. Confronting my father feels complicated, as it involves deeper issues between him and my mother, but I am more concerned about whether my personal phone could be compromised as well.

Seeking Solutions

If anyone has insights or advice on how to safeguard my devices and address this potentially invasive situation, I would greatly appreciate it. Your guidance would be invaluable as I navigate through this confusion.

A Note of Gratitude

I was astonished by the overwhelming response to my initial inquiry. Thank you all for your kindness and the wealth of knowledge you’ve shared. I will take the time necessary to implement your suggestions and keep everyone updated on my progress!
