My Computer Ignited Suddenly: Uncertain About the Cause and the Next Steps

When Disaster Strikes: My Computer Caught Fire – Seeking Guidance

Recently, I experienced a shocking and harrowing incident with my gaming setup. While enjoying a session of GTTOD on Steam, my monitor suddenly went black after just five minutes of gameplay. To my horror, sparks erupted, and flames ignited near the PCIe slot of my graphics card. In a state of panic, I quickly turned off my power supply and disconnected everything. The aftermath was devastating, as shown in these images: Damage Report.

System Specifications

For context, here are the relevant specifications of my PC:

  • Motherboard: MSI Gaming Pro Carbon AC
  • Graphics Card: Sapphire Pulse Vega 56
  • Processor: Ryzen 2600
  • Memory: G.Skill Trident Z 3200MHz CL14
  • Power Supply Unit: EVGA G3 750W
  • Operating System: Windows 10

Seeking Answers and Advice

I’m reaching out to the community for insights into what may have caused this catastrophic failure. Given that all components are currently under warranty, I’m particularly concerned about the potential damage. My initial assumption is that both my motherboard and graphics card may be ruined, but I’m uncertain if other parts might also need replacement.

Moreover, I’m left wondering if the motherboard malfunctioned and damaged the graphics card, or if the graphics card failure, in turn, compromised the motherboard. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to approach warranty claims and troubleshooting would be incredibly helpful at this time.

Thanks in advance for your assistance—especially considering I’m posting from a mobile device due to my computer’s untimely demise!
