Kaspersky Slows My Internet by 60%; Speed Returns to Normal When I Exit the Program

The Unfortunate Impact of Kaspersky on Internet Speed: My Experience

Recently, I encountered a significant problem with Kaspersky, one that has proven very frustrating. While using this antivirus software, I noticed my internet speed plummeted by an astonishing 60%. However, the moment I closed the program, my connection speed reverted to normal levels. This issue has become a major roadblock for me, especially as I regularly download large files that necessitate the full capacity of my internet connection.

Ironically, it’s during these large downloads that the necessity for robust antivirus protection is at its peak, making it impossible for me to simply deactivate the software.

For context, I had been using BitDefender until last week when my subscription expired, and I never experienced such an issue with it. My internet speed remained stable. I also ran tests with McAfee, Norton, and Avira, and none of these solutions resulted in any noticeable decrease in speed.

I am convinced that this issue lies solely with Kaspersky. I even installed it on my office computer and witnessed the identical problem occurring there.

In an attempt to identify the root cause, I meticulously disabled each protective feature within Kaspersky, only to find no substantial change in speed. Even after turning off all features, my internet connection remained sluggish. In contrast, BitDefender, which possesses similar functionalities, performed flawlessly with all protection options activated, without degrading my internet speed.

My experience with Kaspersky’s technical support has been equally disappointing. After lengthy discussions, the support team was unable to assist me effectively and ultimately refused to issue a refund, leaving me feeling trapped with a product that is not meeting my needs.

It’s essential to mention that I have been a satisfied BitDefender customer for five years and made the switch to Kaspersky only out of curiosity. This decision, I now realize, was a mistake.

In conclusion, I recommend approaching Kaspersky with caution. If anyone has suggestions for alternative antivirus solutions that won’t hinder internet performance, I would greatly appreciate your input.

Lastly, for those who might assume that a 400 Mbps connection is ample, I assure you that I invest a significant amount in my internet service, which is crucial for my work. Experiencing a 60% decrease in speed due to an underperforming antivirus program is simply unacceptable.
