In an astonishing and concerning turn of events, I recently discovered that my Google account credentials have somehow been replicated into a complete stranger’s Google account. This bizarre situation began when a woman reached out to me through social media, sharing that her MacBook Pro had started offering my saved login details as suggestions when she navigated to various websites using Google Chrome.
What’s particularly unsettling is that she has access to all of my saved credentials—those I meticulously gathered and stored over the years—through her Google account. To clarify, neither of us has ever accessed each other’s computers, nor have we logged into our respective Google accounts on one another’s devices. Until this incident, we were complete strangers.
Intrigued and slightly alarmed, we arranged to meet in person. Upon our meeting, I was shocked to discover that her browser settings mirrored mine almost perfectly, including bookmarks, extensions, and other preferences.
