A Frustrating Eight-Year Struggle with ADSL Connectivity

In the digital age, a reliable internet connection is essential for both work and leisure. However, for some individuals, this fundamental service can become a source of immense frustration. As someone who has been grappling with daily internet disconnections for the past eight years, my experience has been nothing short of exasperating.

Understanding the Dilemma

Since 2012, I’ve relied on an ADSL connection, which served me well until 2016 when the issues began. Initially, I experienced minor disruptions, but quickly, these turned into a relentless cycle of dropouts. I’ve diligently sought solutions, experimenting with various hardware, including different routers and cables, but the results have been disheartening. Each time a technician from my ISP visits, they seem only to offer superficial fixes—resetting the router or tinkering with cables—without making any real progress.

Frustration mounted further when, last year, I decided to invest in my own ADSL subscription with a high-quality router. Optimism replaced my despair as a technician installed the new setup. Yet, within a minute of use, the connection dropped again, reinforcing my growing belief that the problem lies beyond my control. The connection, directly linked to the external box, rules out any issues on my end.

The ISP’s Lack of Support

Unfortunately, my ISP, which operates in Morocco, has proven less than helpful. Their customer service appears scripted, offering little more than robotic responses that fail to address the nuances of my predicament. Despite my numerous complaints, it feels as though my concerns are falling on deaf ears. They cycle through the motions of sending technicians who do nothing but repeat the same ineffective processes. I often feel like I’m trapped in a frustrating loop of empty responses and unhelpful advice.

Over the years, this continual disruption has severely impacted my daily life. Activities that once brought joy—like playing video games with friends—have become virtually impossible. The social connections I built have faded, and I’m left feeling isolated. The extent of my frustration has even manifested in moments of despair; I often find myself staring at the wall for long stretches, waiting for a connection that rarely lasts.

The Current Situation

As of recently, I’ve taken to logging my internet connection status. On average, I experience disconnections of approximately one and a half minutes, with around 10 to 20 interruptions daily. When I run an internet monitoring

  1. I’m sorry to hear about the ongoing issues you’re experiencing with your internet connection. Persistent disconnections over such an extended period can be very frustrating. Here are some steps and suggestions that might help identify and possibly resolve the problem:

    • Check External Line Quality: Since the issue appears to originate outside your premises, consider requesting a line quality test from your ISP. Sometimes, external line problems or noise interference can cause frequent dropouts.
    • Inspect Physical Connections: Ensure all external & internal cables are properly secured, undamaged, and free from corrosion or corrosion-related issues. Using high-quality, shielded cables might reduce interference.
    • Upgrade Firmware: Confirm that your router’s firmware is up-to-date, as updates often include stability improvements.
    • Configure Stability Settings: Some routers have features like DSL or WAN connection stability settings. Adjusting these might help improve overall reliability.
    • Utilize Line Monitoring Tools: Continue logging your disconnections and, if possible, install line monitoring tools that can track signal quality and help diagnose underlying issues.
    • Consult External Experts: For persistent external line issues, consider hiring a telecommunications technician who can test the line at the external box or exchange, especially if your ISP’s internal technicians haven’t resolved the root cause.
    • Push for a Line Inspection
