RogStrix B650E-I Gaming WiFi OnBoard-Wifi not recognized after 2-3 Boots

Troubleshooting WiFi Connectivity Issues on the ASUS ROG Strix B650E-I Gaming Motherboard

Building a new PC is always an exciting venture, but it can sometimes come with unexpected hurdles. Recently, I assembled a compact, high-performance system using the ASUS ROG Strix B650E-I Gaming WiFi motherboard in a Mini-ITX form factor. While the initial setup went smoothly, I encountered a perplexing issue related to the onboard WiFi module.

The Issue: Intermittent Recognition of the WiFi Controller

After completing the build and installing all necessary drivers, I decided to remove the wired LAN connection, assuming I wouldn’t need it permanently. Post-removal, I noticed that the onboard WiFi adapter would function correctly for the first two to three system boots. However, after a few reboots, the WiFi controller ceased to be recognized by the system entirely.

Upon inspecting the Device Manager, I observed that the WiFi controller was no longer listed as an active device, which rendered wireless connectivity impossible. Attempts to disable and re-enable the WiFi controller via BIOS settings temporarily restored functionality but only for a limited number of boots.

What I Tried

  • Ensuring that all drivers for the WiFi module were correctly installed and up-to-date.

  • Updating the motherboard BIOS to the latest version.

  • Disabling and re-enabling the WiFi controller in BIOS settings, which temporarily restored functionality.

  • Restoring BIOS to default settings, which did not resolve the issue.

Challenges Faced

Despite these efforts, the WiFi module continued to intermittently disappear from the system, leading to connectivity inconsistencies. The problem seems to stem from the BIOS configuration or the system’s recognition of the onboard WiFi controller, possibly exacerbated by the removal of the LAN hardware.

Seeking Help and Next Steps

Given my limited experience with BIOS configurations, I am seeking guidance from seasoned users or professionals. Any advice or recommended troubleshooting steps to ensure consistent recognition and functionality of the onboard WiFi would be highly appreciated.

Summary

  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B650E-I Gaming WiFi (Mini-ITX)

  • Issue: Onboard WiFi loses recognition after 2-3 system boots post-LAN removal

  • Actions Taken: Driver updates, BIOS updates, BIOS reset, toggling WiFi controller in BIOS

  • Problem: WiFi controller randomly disappears, network connectivity is lost
