My Gaming PC runs into trouble such as freezing, crashing when it comes to alt-tabbing during games running (games affected: HOI4, DCS)

Troubleshooting the Alt-Tabbing Dilemma: A Gamer’s Frustration with Freezing Issues

As a passionate gamer, there’s nothing more frustrating than encountering technical difficulties in the midst of an intense gaming session. Recently, I purchased a prebuilt gaming PC—primarily because my DIY skills leave much to be desired. However, I didn’t anticipate one significant hitch that has become a major hurdle in my gaming experience: the notorious alt-tabbing glitch.

Understanding the Issue

Whenever I attempt to alt-tab from a running game such as Hearts of Iron IV (HOI4) or DCS (Digital Combat Simulator), I’m met with a frustrating scenario. The game enters a state of freeze; the audio continues normally, but the visuals come to a complete standstill. Oddly enough, my cursor remains responsive, allowing me to move it around while everything else is unresponsive.

With DCS, the situation can be even more perplexing. Sometimes, the game refuses to load entirely, hanging on the loading bar at 1%. After an excruciating five minutes, I might hear the lobby music, indicating yet another freeze.

What baffles me is that only two games seem to defy this alt-tabbing issue: CS:GO 2 and Apex Legends. It’s a curious anomaly, and I can’t help but wonder why these titles function seamlessly while others do not.

Attempts to Resolve the Glitch

To address the situation, I’ve already tried a variety of solutions with no luck:

  1. Reverted to Windows 10’s alt-tabbing configuration: Unfortunately, this adjustment didn’t make a difference.

  2. Disabled full-screen optimizations: Despite my hopes, this too proved ineffective.

  3. Updated, reinstalled, and tweaked driver settings: Although my games run smoothly in terms of performance, the troublesome freeze during alt-tabbing remains unresolved.

Despite the freezing issues, I’m pleased to report that overall, the performance of my games is commendable, allowing for smooth gameplay—it’s simply the inability to quickly switch between windows that disrupts the experience.
