ASUS, a renowned name in motherboard manufacturing, has long been celebrated for its innovative hardware and reliable build quality. However, recent experiences and reports suggest that their commitment to supporting customers after the initial purchase may not meet expectations, raising questions about their dedication to long-term user satisfaction.

The Promise of Premium Support vs. Reality

Many users invest hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars into ASUS products, anticipating not only top-tier hardware but also comprehensive support throughout their ownership. Unfortunately, anecdotal evidence points to a different reality: after the sale, support channels often become unresponsive or automated, leaving users to troubleshoot issues on their own. BIOS updates, which should ideally improve system stability and performance, are reportedly infrequent and, at times, introduce more problems than they solve—such as regressions in boost behavior, increased idle temperatures, or for some, compatibility issues.

The Perception of Dishonest Performance Optimization

Recent BIOS updates have sparked particular concern among the enthusiast community. Some users describe these updates as “sauna BIOS”—an apt nickname reflecting their tendency to spike system temperatures, throttle performance, and, in some cases, cause thermal stress or component degradation. These updates are often presented under the guise of “enhanced stability,” but critics argue they serve a different purpose: artificially boosting benchmark scores to appeal to potential buyers or reviewers, while degrading system performance for existing users.

This perceived bait-and-switch tactic undermines trust and erodes brand loyalty. For example, a premium motherboard costing around $400 should not cause users to feel as if their systems are dangerously overheating or underperforming due to firmware issues.

Thermal Concerns and Firmware Stability

The temperature management of high-end CPUs, such as the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and Ryzen 9 5950X, is sensitive and crucial for longevity. Users report that even at idle, the processor temps seem to be excessively high, exacerbated by certain BIOS updates. While rolling back firmware can mitigate some of these issues, not all ASUS motherboards include easy-to-access BIOS rollback options—which creates additional frustration for the tech-savvy user.
