Urgent Help Needed: Computer Security Threat from Prokermonantam.co.in
I’m reaching out for assistance regarding a pressing issue involving a friend’s Windows 11 Home computer. The situation appears quite serious, and I, unfortunately, lack the technical know-how to resolve it myself.
About six months ago, Avast antivirus was installed on the system, following the original installation of McAfee at the time of purchase. I believed I had successfully disabled McAfee during the Avast installation, but it seems that may not have been the case after all.
Currently, the computer is inundated with alarming pop-up messages claiming that viruses are being downloaded and that the system is under attack by malicious entities from Russia. Additionally, there’s a message regarding malware installation, with instructions to visit a McAfee page that links back to the dubious domain prokermonantam.co.in. The nature of these notifications raises significant red flags, as they seem far from legitimate, and I certainly do not want to engage with any links that might compromise the system further.
Moreover, I’ve noticed that Avast hasn’t been launching at startup, and my friend is unaware of when this issue arose. In an attempt to regain control, I accessed the installed applications to disable McAfee, but I encountered difficulties in doing so, for reasons unbeknownst to me.
What steps can I take to eliminate this threat and restore the computer’s security? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
