Urgent Help Needed: Recovering Data from a Windows Laptop
I’m reaching out to the community for assistance after encountering a significant issue with my Windows laptop. Yesterday, I experienced a sudden crash, and upon restarting, the system automatically booted into the BIOS. Each time I attempted to power it back on, I was met with the following error codes:
-
Oxc0000001: After multiple attempts, the operating system on your PC failed to start and requires repair.
-
Oxc0000098: The boot configuration data file doesn’t contain valid information for an operating system.
Despite my efforts to resolve these issues, I haven’t had any luck. Here’s a summary of the steps I’ve taken and my discoveries thus far:
-
Bootable Windows Installation: I created a bootable Windows 10 USB drive and accessed the Command Prompt. My goal was to copy the BCD files from the USB to my laptop using ‘bcdboot’. Unfortunately, several attempts failed due to the drive’s write protection.
-
Linux Mint Attempt: I also made a bootable USB with Linux Mint, hoping to retrieve my files and transfer them to an external SSD. However, I encountered a roadblock; I was prompted for a password when trying to access my drives.
-
Disk Management: I used Diskpart to check the condition of the volumes and disks, and everything appeared to be in good health.
-
BitLocker Suspicion: I suspect that the drives may be locked with BitLocker encryption. The challenge is that I never obtained any encryption keys, and I haven’t logged into a Microsoft account on this machine.
It is crucial for me to recover the files stored on these drives, which consist of two 2TB M.2 NVMe drives. If anyone has suggestions or insights on how I can retrieve my data, or if there are any potential solutions to bypass these issues, I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you!
