Recovering Missing Files: A Guide for Tech Troubles

Hello, readers!

Today, I find myself facing a rather frustrating situation and thought it might be helpful to share my story—and perhaps offer insights for anyone else who finds themselves in a similar predicament.

While I’m battling a nasty flu and hoping for some rest, I’ve been unexpectedly called upon to resolve a tech issue that has arisen with my father’s computer. Upon turning it on, he discovered that all his files had mysteriously vanished. That’s right—no documents, no folders, nothing at all—just the installed programs remaining on the screen.

Interestingly, my dad mentioned that he rarely turns off his computer, opting instead to keep it in rest mode. Considering his files were intact just the night before, this sudden disappearance is puzzling. The only additional detail worth noting is that he has McAfee antivirus software installed, which I’m planning to uninstall as soon as I can.

So, here I am, seeking advice on how to approach this situation. What steps can I take to recover those missing files? If anyone has experienced something similar or has tips on navigating file recovery, your insights would be greatly appreciated!

In the meantime, I’m trying to muster the strength to tackle this issue, but any help from this community would make a world of difference. Thank you in advance for your support!

    Hi,

I’m sorry to hear about the data loss you’re experiencing. Based on your description, here are some steps you can take to attempt to recover the missing files:

    1. Check the Recycle Bin: Sometimes files are accidentally deleted but can still be restored from the Recycle Bin. Double-click the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop and see if your dad’s files are there.
    2. Use File History or Backup: If Windows Backup or File History was enabled prior to the issue, you can restore files from a previous version:
      • Right-click the folder where files were originally stored
      • Select Restore previous versions
    3. Check for Hidden Files or Folders: Files might be hidden:
      • Open File Explorer
      • Go to the View tab and check the box for Hidden items
    4. Run a Virus Scan: Since McAfee antivirus is installed, run a full system scan to see if any malicious activity caused
