A hacker communicates with me via Notepad, and I can’t tell if they’ve disappeared for good

Uninvited Digital Guests: A Disturbing Encounter with a Hacker

Recently, I had an unsettling experience while using my computer that I felt compelled to share. It began with a seemingly innocuous popup appearing on my screen, adorned with a cheerful “:)” in the corner. The message read, “Hello, do not freak out, or shut off your device. I have obtained access to this device and wanted to inform you that I am removing my access. Please note that I have taken no actions on your device. I apologize for the inconvenience.”

At first, I was taken aback, unsure of how to process this unexpected intrusion. Moments later, I noticed my mouse cursor moving on its own, navigating to the Windows Search Bar and opening the notes application. To my astonishment, the hacker typed “hello,” and in a moment of sheer disbelief, I found myself responding with “WHO IS THIS.”

What unfolded next was even more bizarre. The intruder claimed that I had inadvertently downloaded a virus, which allowed him access to my system. He mentioned a “panel” where he could monitor his connections, stating that he had seen my device listed there. Yet, his explanation remained vague, leaving me with more questions than answers. Suddenly, a message popped up: “Host terminated connection – Client Disconnected.” Just like that, the conversation was over, but the unsettling feelings lingered.

Looking back, the only instance I recall that could be related to a potential breach was when I downloaded a game from GameJolt. It reportedly altered my background and displayed spooky popups, but the hacker’s claims seemed disconnected from that experience.

This encounter has left me wondering about the adequacy of my cybersecurity measures and the reality of digital safety in a world where such intrusions are possible. If you’ve had a similar experience or have tips on enhancing security, I’d love to hear from you. Stay safe online!
