After My Boss Passed Away and Left Me His Small Business, I’m Unsure How to Access the Company Website Backend

Navigating a New Responsibility: Taking Charge of a Small Business Website

Recently, I found myself in an unexpected position after the passing of my boss, who entrusted his small company to me in his will. This transition has been both a privilege and a daunting challenge, especially when it comes to managing the company’s website—a task I’m still figuring out how to tackle due to my limited technical expertise.

To start, I’ve acquired some passwords and leads that might guide me, yet, I’m uncertain about where to begin. One fundamental question persists: how do I identify the platform the website is built on? My attempts to use various online tools that track Content Management Systems (CMS) have proven fruitless so far.

Upon inspecting the site, I quickly noticed its less-than-appealing design, which led me to suspect that it might not be developed using popular platforms like WordPress or Wix. Instead, it seems to have been crafted using basic HTML skills. While I have a grasp on HTML, the challenge lies in accessing the editing interface. Unlike intuitive platforms that have direct login pages (such as Wix.com), I’m unsure where to input the login credentials to make necessary updates.

Moving forward, my immediate goals are clear: I need to uncover how to access and navigate this website to make improvements and ensure it aligns with our company’s vision. If you’ve ever found yourself in a similar situation or have any tips on how to approach this technical conundrum, your advice would be greatly appreciated!
