As a relatively new PC owner, what the hell are these prices? And are they gonna eventually drop?

The Rising Cost of Graphics Cards: A Newbie’s Perspective

As a relatively new PC enthusiast, I find myself grappling with a perplexing question: What’s up with the skyrocketing prices of graphics cards?

I built my first PC back on January 3, 2021, and I proudly acquired an RTX 3070 for around £400. Even today, this card performs admirably. However, as I delve deeper into gaming and creative applications, I’m beginning to feel the pinch of its 8GB VRAM limitations. Naturally, I’ve been eyeing potential upgrades, but the price tags are shocking.

Take, for example, the recent release of the 5070 Ti – it’s retailing for over £800! Given the trends we often hope for, one might expect prices to decrease rather than balloon. It raises an unsettling concern: will we soon see the day when even an average graphics card costs a staggering £5,000?

This situation leaves many in the community, myself included, wondering when (or if) we can expect a reprieve from these exorbitant prices. Is this the new normal for PC components, or are there brighter days ahead?

I invite thoughts and insights from fellow tech enthusiasts—what’s driving this price surge, and should we brace ourselves for even steeper costs in the future?
