Troubleshooting a Non-Responsive Nvidia 3060 Laptop GPU: Seeking Advice

As an IT professional, I pride myself on my problem-solving abilities. However, I recently encountered a perplexing issue with a used laptop I acquired from my workplace that has left me searching for answers.

The laptop is equipped with an Nvidia 3060 GPU, which functioned seamlessly for the first two weeks of ownership. Out of the blue, the graphics card ceased to work properly just a few days ago.

In my quest to resolve the issue, I have attempted several troubleshooting steps, including:

  • Reinstalling the graphics drivers
  • Performing BIOS updates
  • Reverting Windows updates to previous versions
  • Uninstalling the drivers and downgrading to older versions
  • Reinstalling Windows entirely and also rolling back to an earlier operating system version

Interestingly, the device manager recognizes the GPU without any problems. However, other applications and programs are unable to detect it, which indicates that the issue may not be hardware-related—or at least, not straightforward.

Now, I’m reaching out to the community for insights and recommendations. If anyone has encountered a similar problem or has suggestions on further troubleshooting steps, your expertise would be greatly appreciated. Let’s collaborate to find a solution and get this laptop back to its optimal performance!
