Addressing Backlight Flickering and Vertical Lines on the Toshiba 65” Class C350 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV
Many Toshiba TV owners have experienced issues with display stability, and one common problem involves backlight flickering coupled with vertical white or grey lines moving across the screen. As a relatively new owner of the Toshiba 65” Class C350 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV, I want to share my journey diagnosing and attempting to resolve these display issues, hoping it might assist others facing similar problems.
Initial Symptoms and Early Observations
Purchased new from Best Buy in June 2023, the TV has been installed and remain stationary on the wall since unpacking. Initially, the display showed subtle flickering when turning on—almost unnoticeable and fleeting, with the flickering abruptly ceasing shortly after startup. Over time, however, a persistent vertical white or grey line began to manifest along the screen, accompanied by intermittent flickering.
Progression of the Issue
The problem gradually worsened, with the vertical line and flickering becoming more noticeable and persistent. Some troubleshooting steps I tried included:
- Performing simple restarts — that temporarily resolved the flickering.
- Unplugging the TV, waiting, and restarting — again, a temporary fix.
- Factory resetting the device — which appeared to resolve the issue initially but ultimately proved ineffective over the long term.
- Adjusting picture settings, specifically reducing the backlight from 100 to 99, which temporarily eliminated the problem for a period.
Despite these efforts, the flickering and line artifacts reappeared. One day, the issue became unresponsive to resets or adjustments, and the problem persisted despite multiple troubleshooting attempts.
Extensive Troubleshooting Efforts
At this stage, I conducted further research and experimented with additional solutions, including:
- Performing multiple reboots and hard resets.
- Trying different power outlets and ensuring consistent power supply.
- Updating firmware—if available—and checking for any software updates.
- Adjusting picture and backlight settings beyond initial modifications.
Unfortunately, none of these interventions permanently resolved the issue, and the flickering, along with vertical line anomalies, persisted.
Seeking Support and Advice
The recurring nature of the problem suggests potential underlying hardware issues, possibly related to the LED backlight system or internal display components such as the T-Con board or the LCD panel itself. If you’ve encountered similar symptoms with your Toshiba TV, it might be advisable to seek professional repair
