An Invitation to Dive into the World of Cybersecurity and Cryptocurrency

Hello, everyone! My name is Nick Percoco, and I am the Chief Security Officer at Kraken, a leading global digital asset exchange. As someone with over 25 years in the security and technology sectors, I have dedicated my career to the intricacies of cybersecurity and its evolution in the ever-expanding realm of cryptocurrencies.

Before joining Kraken, I held pivotal roles such as the Chief Security Officer at Uptake, an industrial AI firm, and Vice President of Global Services at Rapid7, a renowned cybersecurity service provider. Throughout my journey, I have had the opportunity to share my expertise on various platforms, including well-known conferences like Black Hat, DEF CON, and OWASP. I’ve also engaged with esteemed organizations such as the Department of Homeland Security, US-CERT, Interpol, and the United States Secret Service, providing insights on critical issues related to security breaches, malware, mobile threats, and the latest trends in information security.

My passion for technology ignited at a young age; I began coding when I was just seven years old on a Timex Sinclair 1000 in the early ’80s. My fascination with computing grew as I explored the vibrant Chicago BBS scene during the late ’80s and early ’90s, utilizing a Commodore 64 and later transitioning to an Intel 386 PC running on Linux.

As a long-standing member of the Chicago hacker community, I take pride in organizing THOTCON, a hacker conference that will be celebrating its 12th event this year. Additionally, I have played a significant role in investigating some of the most notable data breaches in history. In my current role at Kraken, I focus on developing comprehensive programs that fortify our platform against potential cyber threats.

I invite you to engage with me as I share insights from my experiences in the cybersecurity field, especially regarding cryptocurrency-related hacks and security strategies. If you’re curious about the challenges and solutions within the industry, or if you have specific questions you’d like answered, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Let’s start a conversation about the vital role of cybersecurity in the world of digital assets. I look forward to your questions!

Nota Bene: I really enjoyed the discussions we had, and I’ll continue to check in throughout the day to answer as many inquiries as I can. Let’s keep the conversation going!
