Troubleshooting a Persistent Overheating Issue in My Pre-Built Gaming PC
Hello everyone,
I find myself in a bit of a predicament with my computer, and I’m reaching out for advice. As someone with minimal technical expertise beyond installing drivers, I’d appreciate your guidance in resolving this ongoing overheating issue.
The Background
I own a CyberPower C-series, a pre-built gaming PC that initially functioned perfectly. However, I’ve been facing a troubling problem: it overheats remarkably quickly. Despite taking it to Geek Squad around 15 times, the situation remains unaltered. They’ve done various repairs, including replacing the thermal paste, cleaning the insides, and even swapping out fans, but the overheating persists.
What’s Happening
Under normal circumstances, my computer runs at around 50°C, but it experiences sudden shutdowns when it reaches a certain temperature threshold. While the system feels warm to the touch, it never actually gets hot. This issue is particularly frustrating as I primarily use it for gaming—titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Marvel Rivals—but even light usage, such as browsing Chrome or streaming videos on YouTube, can lead to shutdowns.
Environmental Factors
I live in an apartment with poor airflow. To combat this, I keep the air conditioning running and have a ceiling fan activated to maintain a comfortable temperature—it’s often so cold that I’m shivering! Yet, despite these efforts, my PC continues to overheat.
Seeking Help
I’m at my wits’ end and really need your help. I’m not in a financial position to purchase a new computer, and I’m tired of recurring trips to Geek Squad without any real solutions. If you could share any advice or insights, I would be incredibly grateful!
To provide context, my graphics card is a GeForce RTX, although I’m not certain of the specific series. I also use an external hard drive. I suspect this may be a hardware issue. It’s worth noting that my computer has overheated before due to a corrupted graphics driver update—this has happened twice.
Conclusion
If you think there’s additional information that could assist in diagnosing the problem, please let me know. I’m eager to resolve this and get back to enjoying my gaming experience without interruptions. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide!
