Is My Father Hacking My Phone? A Disturbing Discovery

Recently, I stumbled upon a troubling situation that left me questioning my privacy and the integrity of my personal space. As someone who isn’t particularly tech-savvy, I hope to articulate my predicament in a way that’s clear and accessible to others who might be experiencing something similar.

I reside approximately 40 minutes away from my parents, but during a visit to their home, I encountered an unsettling discovery. My mother expressed concern about my father’s unusual interest in her affairs, and what happened next was quite alarming. While at their house, she found a peculiar USB device that had a button and a switch on one side. Curious, I connected it to my laptop, only to uncover recordings that were deeply invasive. These included personal conversations I had with my mother and sister earlier that day, as well as a private phone call with my boyfriend that took place in a different room just before I plugged in the USB.

To clarify, neither my mother nor I have ever granted my father access to our phones—or any technology that would allow him to surveil our conversations. I own a Galaxy Note 9, while she uses a newer model of an iPhone. This situation left me bewildered: how was this possible, and more importantly, could my father be gaining access to my phone when I’m at home?

I would prefer not to confront him directly, as the matter is ultimately between him and my mother. However, I feel the need to protect my privacy. If my phone is indeed compromised, I’m eager to learn how I can safeguard my personal information moving forward.
