Is Someone Hacking My Phone? Confessions of a Concerned Daughter
In today’s digital age, the privacy of our personal devices is more important than ever. Yet, for some, crossing the boundaries of privacy can become a distressing reality. Recently, I found myself questioning whether my father might be intruding on my privacy through my phone while I’m at home.
Let me backtrack a bit. I live about 40 minutes from my parents, and recently, my mother has noticed that my father seems overly interested in her affairs. During a recent visit, she discovered an unusual USB device—a small gadget equipped with a button and a switch. Out of curiosity, I connected it to my laptop. What I uncovered was startling; it contained video recordings of my mother, intimate conversations I had with her and my sister earlier that day, and even a phone call I had with my boyfriend while downstairs.
The unsettling aspect is that I have never shared access to my phone with my father, nor has my mother. I use a Galaxy Note 9, while she has a more recent iPhone. With my limited technical skills, I am at a loss regarding how this could have happened and whether my father could potentially extend this kind of surveillance when I’m back at my own place.
While I’m hesitant to confront my father about this, as it concerns his relationship with my mother, I can’t ignore the looming question of how to protect myself and my privacy. If my phone is indeed compromised, what steps can I take to secure my data?
In the midst of this troubling situation, I’ve been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and advice I’ve received from the online community.
