Tackling Overheating Issues: My CPU Hits 110°C

For the past several days, I’ve been facing alarming temperature issues with my PC, particularly concerning the CPU. It all began when I received an error code 2000-0511 from Alienware, indicating an issue with my CPU fan. After consulting with their support, I decided to take matters into my own hands, purchasing three replacement fans and installing them into my Alienware R10.

Despite the installation of these new fans, which have been effective in keeping my computer cool, the error message has resurfaced. This led me to suspect that the fan might not be the core issue after all. To investigate further, I downloaded and installed NZXT’s performance Software to monitor my CPU temperatures. To my dismay, I discovered that the idle temperature was hovering around 70-80°C, which seems unusually high for a Ryzen 7 5800X, even under water cooling.

Currently, the persistent elevated temperatures have me puzzled. It’s evident that the issue may lie not with the cooling system but rather with the way my PC gauges CPU temperatures. Other potential culprits include the motherboard, the water cooling system itself, or even the CPU.

Given that my room temperature is a comfortable 15°C, the source of the overheating appears to originate within the PC. During the fan replacement process, I upgraded the top fan to two smaller, more efficient models while also refreshing the thermal paste and cleaning out accumulated dust. Despite these efforts, I have never previously monitored my CPU temperature, leaving me uncertain about whether the high temperature issue has been ongoing since I purchased this machine in September 2021.

This morning, after awakening my PC from sleep mode, I was stunned to find the CPU temperature soaring to 90°C and then escalating to a concerning 110°C—an abnormal reading that demands immediate attention.
