Disabling Cortana immediately resolved 75% of my mouse lag problems—now I’m exploring ways to fix the remaining 25%

Tackling Mouse Lag: Elimination Strategies for Enhanced Performance

In my quest to optimize my new P51 Thinkpad, I recently discovered an intriguing fix that resolved about 75% of my mouse lag issues—removing Cortana. However, I still find myself grappling with persistent lag, and I’m eager to explore additional solutions for that remaining 25%.

For the past several days, I’ve been digging into this problem, dedicating over 50 hours to achieving smooth functionality on my computer. My primary frustration arises when using Flash-generated slides within Chrome, which is a critical part of my work routine. Despite my persistent efforts—including uninstalling and reinstalling all drivers and applications, as well as restoring my system to its factory settings—the mouse lag has proven stubborn.

The issue manifests as a noticeable stutter occurring every 3 to 5 seconds while I navigate through these slides. Initially, I encountered various suggestions regarding Cortana’s impact on performance. After deciding to deactivate her, I experienced an immediate improvement in responsiveness. Unfortunately, the experience wasn’t entirely seamless, and I continue to seek remedies for the lingering lag.

Interestingly, I’ve noticed that resizing the window or scaling down the slides leads to a significant reduction in lag. While this provides a temporary respite, it’s not a viable long-term solution, as I need a clear view of my work.

I’m reaching out to the community for further insights or potential strategies that could help eliminate the remaining lag. Are there any additional tweaks or configurations you’ve found effective?

Update: I appreciate the multitude of suggestions already provided. While I have explored many options, none have completely eradicated the issue. I want to reiterate that the mouse operates flawlessly as long as I’m outside the Flash slides; the stuttering only arises when interacting directly with them. Any fresh ideas would be invaluable!
