Disabling Cortana immediately resolved 75% of my mouse lag problems—now I’m exploring additional solutions to address the remaining 25%

Tackling Mouse Lag Issues on My ThinkPad: A Journey Towards Smooth Performance

After countless hours of troubleshooting, I’ve finally uncovered a significant part of the solution to my frustrating mouse lag problems—removing Cortana has alleviated approximately 75% of the stuttering issues I’ve experienced on my new P51 ThinkPad. However, there is still a lingering 25% that I’m determined to resolve.

The Struggle with Mouse Lag

For over 50 hours, I’ve been wrestling with my computer to eliminate persistent lag while using Flash-based presentations in Chrome—a critical part of my daily work routine. Despite my efforts, including uninstalling and reinstalling software, updating drivers, and even performing a complete system restore, the problem continued to plague me.

The stuttering is particularly noticeable every three to five seconds, specifically when I interact with Flash slides. Initially, I was overwhelmed by the myriad of suggested solutions, but I was hoping to find a permanent fix.

Discovering Cortana’s Impact

A few community members pointed out that Cortana could be contributing to the issue. After deciding to remove the virtual assistant, I experienced an immediate and notable improvement in responsiveness. That said, while the experience is significantly better, it’s not entirely smooth—the quest for a complete resolution continues.

Temporary Workarounds and Insights

Interestingly, I’ve observed that minimizing the window or scaling down the Flash slides almost eliminates the lag. However, given the nature of my work, I need to maintain clear visibility of all aspects on the screen, making this a temporary, rather than a sustainable, solution.

Calling for Solutions

I’m reaching out to the community for additional advice. Has anyone else found effective ways to eliminate mouse lag, particularly in Flash applications? Your tips and experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Update:

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has shared their ideas thus far. I’ve experimented with several suggestions, but the issue persists. To clarify, while mouse movement is fluid outside of the Flash slides, the stuttering reappears as soon as I engage with the slides themselves. Any further insights would be invaluable!
