Tackling Mouse Lag: My Journey and Solutions
After an exhaustive investigation into a persistent mouse lag issue on my new P51 Thinkpad, I managed to alleviate about 75% of the problem simply by removing Cortana. However, I’m still on the hunt for solutions to eliminate the remaining 25% of the lag that continues to impact my workflow.
For over 50 hours, I have been trying to fine-tune the performance of my machine. The primary challenge I face is significant mouse stuttering, particularly when interacting with Flash-generated slides in Chrome, a crucial task I undertake daily for work.
Throughout this process, I’ve taken a comprehensive approach: uninstalling and reinstalling all drivers and software, performing routine updates, and even resorting to a complete system wipe and reinstallation. Despite these efforts, the annoying lag persists.
I experience noticeable stuttering with my mouse every three to five seconds when navigating these slides. After hearing that Cortana might contribute to the issue, I decided to disable her, which led to an immediate enhancement in mouse performance. Yet, my experience is still not entirely fluid, prompting me to seek further solutions.
Interestingly, I’ve observed that reducing the window size or scaling down the slides can temporarily mitigate the lag. However, this is far from a viable long-term fix, as I need a proper view of my work without straining my eyes.
At this stage, I’m reaching out to the community for additional ideas.
Update: A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has offered suggestions so far! I’ve tried nearly all of them without achieving a complete resolution. It’s worth noting that while my mouse operates flawlessly outside the Flash environment, the problems resurface as soon as the cursor hovers over the slides.
If you have any recommendations, your input would be greatly appreciated!
