Troubleshooting Disk Access Issues with DMDE on macOS

Hello, fellow tech enthusiasts!

Recently, I came across a situation that many of you might be able to relate to. After reading some suggestions on Reddit, I decided to explore DMDE, a less expensive alternative to DiskDrill for recovering data. With DiskDrill priced at a steep 80 euros, I was eager to find a more budget-friendly solution.

However, I encountered a challenge while attempting to scan my 120 GB Mac drive. DMDE displayed a message indicating that the disk was not accessible. This raised a crucial question in my mind: if I opt for the 20 euro version of DMDE, will it grant me the access I need to recover my data?

From what I’ve gathered, DiskDrill seemed to handle access without problems, but its cost is simply too high for my financial comfort. I also considered Recuva, but I’m not quite familiar with how to use it or even how to download it effectively.

Any insights or advice on whether the less expensive DMDE version could resolve my accessibility issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

Happy recovering!

    Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out with your concerns about using DMDE on macOS. Disk access issues can be frustrating, but there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

    • Verify Disk Mounting: Ensure that your drive is properly mounted on macOS. Use Disk Utility to check if the disk appears and is accessible. If not, try mounting it manually or running First Aid to repair any minor issues.
    • Check Compatibility: DMDE is primarily designed for Windows and DOS environments; native support for macOS can be limited. Consider running DMDE in a Windows environment via Boot Camp, Parallels, or VirtualBox if possible, as this can improve compatibility and access.
    • Disk Format and Permissions: Confirm that your drive is formatted in a compatible file system (e.g., NTFS, FAT, exFAT). macOS may have limited read/write support for some formats. Ensure you have the necessary permissions to access the disk.
    • Try Alternative Tools: If DMDE’s free or paid versions don’t resolve your issue, you might want to test other data recovery tools that are macOS-compatible, such as
