Unearthing Nostalgia: Discovering My Dad’s Sharp PC-7000
Recently, while reorganizing our shed, I stumbled upon a blast from the past—my father’s portable computer, the Sharp PC-7000. As I brushed off the dust and cleared away the cobwebs, a wave of nostalgia washed over me.
(Note: This photo, taken while it was perched on my lap, is the only one I managed to capture.)
Although this vintage device has spent much of its life tucked away in the shed to avoid the likes of spiders, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it powered on with just a plug into the wall. Remarkably, we still have floppy disks compatible with it, allowing for a little trip down memory lane.
Reflecting on its significance, it’s easy to see how revolutionary the Sharp PC-7000 was in its heyday. My father often carried it with him to his classes, embodying the spirit of innovation during a time when portable computing was just beginning to take shape.
As technology continues to advance at a rapid pace, it’s fascinating to look back at these early devices that paved the way for the digital world we inhabit today. Retrieving this piece of history not only evokes fond memories but also serves as a reminder of how far we’ve come in our journey with technology.
