During Quarantine, I Tried Playing 4K VR Videos from Pornhub Premium for Research — But They Won’t Play

Title: Troubleshooting VR Video Playback Issues: A Quarantine Dilemma

In the midst of quarantine, I recently decided to explore some 4K VR videos from Pornhub Premium, intending to conduct a bit of research. However, I encountered some frustrating playback issues that I hope to share with others facing similar challenges.

After acquiring a Pornhub Premium subscription, I was excited to download several premium VR videos, specifically in stunning 1440p and 4K resolution. The files, which each exceeded 1GB in size, were saved in .mp4 format. However, when attempting to play them on my PC using VLC Media Player and MPC-HC, I experienced a disheartening problem: while the audio was functional, the video displayed nothing but a blank screen, often accompanied by a distorted green line at the top and, on some occasions, an entirely green screen. Moreover, the video player frequently froze during playback, leading me to suspect that the files might be corrupted.

My original aim was to use these videos with the Mobile VR Station app on my mobile VR headset, but to my annoyance, they wouldn’t play there either, resulting in a “Cannot decode” error message. This unexpected roadblock left me in need of assistance.

Interestingly, I had previously downloaded various VR videos from multiple sources, including Pornhub, and those videos worked without any issues, indicating that the problem was specifically related to the new downloads.

Upon further investigation, I discovered that the issue seemed to be isolated to the Mobile VR Station app on iOS. To my relief, the videos played seamlessly using the Windows default video player and VLC after I disabled hardware encoding. I realized that I now needed to find a more compatible mobile app that could handle these 4K videos.

In my quest for a solution, I tried out the SKYBOX VR Video Player for iOS. This application appeared to be a more robust option for VR viewing, but unfortunately, it resulted in a similar outcome: the audio worked, but the video displayed only a black screen.

If anyone has suggestions for effective mobile VR video players or insights into resolving these playback challenges, your guidance would be greatly appreciated. As I continue to navigate this quarantine, I appreciate any help the community can provide in enhancing my VR experience!
