Either something strange is happening with my computer audio devices or I’m slowly descending into madness.

Is My Computer Playing Classic Rock, or Am I Losing My Mind?

We’ve all encountered some inexplicable glitches when working with technology, but occasionally these quirks leave us feeling like we might be spiraling into madness. Allow me to share my recent experience that straddles the line between tech trouble and sheer bewilderment.

For some time, I’ve noticed my aging computer speaker and subwoofer setup emitting faint sounds resembling a classic rock radio station. At first, it was merely an odd background noise, barely audible, sometimes accompanied by a soft-spoken DJ. My initial thought was that perhaps my computer had been compromised—maybe a virus, malware, or some sort of digital gremlin lingering in the system.

In a bid to investigate, I unplugged the audio input, expecting the noise to cease. Much to my astonishment, it continued to play. That’s when it hit me: could it be that my speaker system was unwittingly picking up radio signals? It certainly seemed plausible. After all, this speaker setup is older, and a little interference might be expected from time to time.

Then came the clincher. I recently accepted a new role that involves working from home and includes phone support duties. With this opportunity, I received a sleek new laptop and a high-quality USB headset equipped with a microphone. Eager to engage with clients, I quickly dove into my work routine.

After concluding a call, the unexpected occurred once more: that all-too-familiar sound of soft classic rock wafted through my headset. It was like the local station was playing at a whisper, just loud enough to be noticed yet quiet enough to question my sanity. After a few minutes, the music fizzled out, almost as if mocking my predicament.

So here I am, left with a burning question: Is there a rational explanation for this phenomenon, or should I prepare for the possibility of needing a padded room? If you’ve experienced similar audio anomalies or have insights into the mysteries of sound transmission and electronic devices, I would love to hear your thoughts. Perhaps together we can unfurl the veil over this peculiar situation—before I find myself in a therapist’s office, questioning reality!
