Encountering a Roadblock: An IT Expert’s Challenge in Resolving This Problem…

Troubleshooting Guide: When Your Nvidia 3060 GPU Stops Working on a Used Laptop

Navigating the world of IT can be challenging, especially when you’re faced with unexpected hardware issues. Today, I want to share my experience and seek advice about a recent situation involving a used laptop equipped with an Nvidia 3060 GPU that I purchased from my workplace.

For the first couple of weeks, this laptop functioned perfectly, and the GPU performed admirably. However, just a few days ago, it suddenly ceased to work. As many IT professionals can relate, this can be incredibly frustrating. After extensive troubleshooting, here’s what I have attempted so far:

  • Driver Reinstallation: I initially tried reinstalling the Nvidia drivers to ensure that any potential software conflicts were resolved.
  • Updating BIOS: I also ran a BIOS update to see if there were any compatibility improvements for the GPU.
  • Reverting Updates: To eliminate any update-related issues, I reverted both BIOS and Windows updates that may have coincided with the GPU failure.
  • Complete Driver Uninstall: I removed the graphics drivers entirely and installed older versions to check if that would restore functionality.
  • Windows Reinstallation: As a last resort, I went through the process of reinstalling Windows and even attempted to revert to an earlier version of the operating system.

Throughout this process, the GPU still appears in Device Manager, which gives me hope. However, it is not being recognized by any other applications or programs, leaving me puzzled about the underlying issue.

Does anyone have insights or alternative solutions for this frustrating predicament? Your advice and experiences would be greatly appreciated as I navigate this challenge in the IT realm!
