Troubleshooting Audio Static on the Lenovo Legion 5: Seeking Solutions for a Common Issue
As a passionate gamer, investing in a high-performance laptop is an exciting venture. However, when I experienced persistent audio issues with my new Lenovo Legion 5, I felt compelled to share my frustrations in hopes of finding solutions or insights from the community.
My Configuration
For context, my Lenovo Legion 5 is equipped with:
– AMD Ryzen 7 processor
– NVIDIA RTX 3060 graphics card
– 512 GB SSD storage
I was thrilled when I first unboxed this machine, but my excitement quickly turned to dismay when I encountered an unexpected audio problem.
The Issue
Upon connecting my headphones to the 3.5mm jack on the left side of the laptop, I discovered that playing audio from applications like Spotify or YouTube resulted in a persistent crackling and static sound. This annoying interference lasts for a few seconds after pausing playback and occurs during startup as well, particularly when launching Discord. It’s as though I can actually “hear” interference from the sound card when it is activated. The volume of this static is quite disruptive, reaching about a third of my music volume.
In pursuit of a fix, I explored numerous troubleshooting techniques:
– Disabling audio enhancements
– Unplugging the charger
– Updating the BIOS
Unfortunately, none of these measures resolved the issue.
Temporary Workarounds
While I found that using Bluetooth headphones bypassed the static noise, their audio quality doesn’t meet my standards as an audio technician. It’s essential for me to utilize my Beyerdynamic DT770s, which are wired. I also tested a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter, which operated without producing any static, suggesting a problem with the laptop’s 3.5mm port itself.
The Replacement Problem
Upon returning my initial laptop for a replacement, I was hopeful for a resolution. However, to my dismay, the replacement exhibited the same audio static issue. The only difference? The interference only occurs when the laptop is connected to the power supply and the Wi-Fi router is active.
Turning off the router eliminates the static, but that’s not a feasible long-term solution since I rely on Wi-Fi for gaming and work.
Seeking Answers
I’m curious if anyone else has encountered this issue with their Lenovo laptops or other devices. My partner’s laptop, as well as my work laptop (also a Lenovo),
