Troubleshooting a Mysterious GPU Issue: Insights from an IT Perspective

As an IT professional, it’s always perplexing when a seemingly straightforward problem leaves you stumped. Recently, I encountered a serious headache with a used laptop I purchased from my company. The device features an Nvidia 3060 notebook GPU that had been functioning flawlessly for two weeks—until it suddenly stopped working.

Initially, I took a systematic approach to resolve the issue, implementing several troubleshooting methods. I began by reinstalling the graphics drivers, hoping to refresh the connection between the GPU and the system. Following that, I updated the BIOS in case there were any compatibility improvements or bug fixes that could potentially restore functionality.

I also considered the possibility that a recent update might have caused the problem. Therefore, I reverted both the BIOS and Windows updates to previous versions in hopes of undoing the changes that led to the malfunction. When those strategies didn’t yield results, I uninstalled the current drivers and installed older versions, thinking there may have been a conflict with the latest release.

In an effort to start fresh, I even undertook the task of reinstalling Windows entirely, yet I still encountered the same issue. Despite all of my attempts, the GPU was recognized in the Device Manager but failed to be acknowledged by any other applications or programs.

At this point, I’m reaching out to fellow tech enthusiasts and IT professionals. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation or have insights into what might be going wrong? Any advice or suggestions on further steps to diagnose this issue would be greatly appreciated.
