Feeling Stumped: As an IT Professional, I Can’t Solve This Issue…

Troubleshooting GPU Issues: My Journey with a Used Laptop

As an IT professional, I often find myself troubleshooting various technical issues. However, I encountered a perplexing challenge recently that left me feeling defeated. Allow me to share my experience in the hopes that someone might offer insight or solutions.

I recently purchased a used laptop from my previous employer, equipped with a powerful Nvidia 3060 notebook GPU. For the first two weeks, everything ran smoothly. Then, out of the blue, the GPU stopped functioning.

In an effort to revive it, I tried a multitude of troubleshooting steps. I began by reinstalling the graphics drivers and performed several BIOS updates, hoping one of these actions would resolve the issue. Thorough as I was, I even explored reverting BIOS and Windows updates to earlier versions. I uninstalled the drivers entirely, reverting to older iterations, and ran a full Windows reinstallation, again attempting to switch back to an earlier version.

Despite these efforts, the GPU continues to be recognized in the Device Manager, yet it remains unacknowledged by any other applications. This has led me to feel rather stuck.

I’m reaching out to the community for guidance. Has anyone encountered a similar issue with a laptop GPU? Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Your insights might just help me get this powerful machine back up and running!
