File recovery completed but files have been split and aren’t repairing properly

Troubleshooting File Recovery: Challenges with Split Files from an SD Card

Hello everyone,

I find myself in a challenging situation and am reaching out for guidance from this community. Recently, I attempted to recover crucial footage from an SD card that had been accidentally wiped—not due to my actions. For this task, I turned to WonderShare RecoverIt, a software known for its file recovery capabilities.

While I was able to restore my files, I’m encountering a perplexing issue. It seems that the recovered footage has been fragmented into separate components, reminiscent of separating thumbnails from the actual video content. Unfortunately, every effort to use the Advanced Repair feature has proven ineffective in merging these disparate elements.

The Advanced Repair function seems to start from the initial fragment of the thumbnail imagery. For example, if I’m attempting to repair a video lasting 30 seconds, the tool aligns itself with the first thumbnail and proceeds to stitch together subsequent thumbnails until the 30-second duration is reached. The result resembles a patchwork of thumbnails that do not accurately represent the original video.

To illustrate this oddity better, I’ve attached a video demonstrating the behavior of the recovery tool. I hope that by sharing this, I can obtain some clarity on how to proceed.

Watch the video here.

I’m reaching out to see if anyone in the community has experienced a similar problem or can offer insights on how to resolve this peculiar issue. Even a nudge in the right direction would be immensely appreciated!

Thank you for your support!

  1. Technical Support Response

    Hi,

It appears you’re facing issues with fragmented recovery files and unsuccessful attempts at repairing them using WonderShare RecoverIt. This situation can sometimes occur when the recovery process creates isolated file fragments, especially with damaged or partially overwritten storage media.

Here are some suggestions that may help resolve your problem:

    • Verify File Integrity: Before attempting repairs, ensure the recovered files are complete and intact. Use media inspection tools to check for file corruption or partial recovery.
    • Use Alternative Repair Tools: Consider trying other specialized video repair software such as Stellar Phoenix Video Repair, Digital Video Repair, or VLC Media Player (which can sometimes repair and play corrupted videos).
    • Check for Fragmentation: If the files are split into multiple segments, you may need to manually reassemble them using tools like MP4Box or FFmpeg. For example, you can concatenate video segments with FFmpeg using command-line commands like:
      ffmpeg -i \"segment1.mp4\" -i \"segment2.mp4\" -c copy output.mp4
