How to Recover Data from Your SD Card: A Journey with Tenoshare 4DDig

Hello everyone,

I’m reaching out to the community today seeking advice on an unfortunate mishap I experienced recently. After formatting my SD card without making a proper backup of my footage, I turned to Tenoshare 4DDig in hopes of recovering my lost data. The application succeeded in displaying my recovered files on the desktop interface, which brought me some relief. However, I encountered an issue when trying to access these files on my external hard drive (WD Elements).

Despite seeing the correct file sizes, the clips refuse to play, which is quite frustrating. Interestingly, when I download the preview for the individual clips, they function perfectly. This leads me to wonder whether the problem lies with my hard drive itself.

Has anyone else faced a similar situation? I would greatly appreciate any insights or solutions that could help me resolve this issue and successfully bring my footage back to life. Thank you in advance for your help!

  1. Hi there,

It sounds like you’ve successfully recovered your files using Tenoshare 4DDig, which is great! The issue you’re facing with the files not playing directly from your external hard drive could be caused by a few factors:

    • File Permissions: Ensure that your external drive has the correct permissions set. You can right-click on the drive, select Properties, then go to the Security tab and verify that your user account has full access.
    • File Compatibility: Sometimes, recovered files may have temporary or incorrect metadata. Since previews work, try to confirm if the actual video files are intact by using a reliable media player like VLC Media Player, which can handle a wide range of formats and may repair minor issues on the fly.
    • Drive Health and Connection: Check your external drive for errors using CHKDSK or disk utility tools specific to your OS. Also, ensure that the connection is stable—use a different USB port or cable if needed.
    • Copy and Play: Try copying the recovered files to your local internal drive and then attempt to play them. If they work locally but not from the external, the issue may be with the drive itself.

If the problem persists, consider running a recovery verification with Tenoshare
