Reviving a 12-Year-Old Laptop: A Gateway for My Child’s Learning Journey

I recently took on a rewarding project: breathing new life into my 12-year-old laptop by installing Ubuntu. This will be my 4-year-old daughter’s first laptop, providing her with a wonderful opportunity to learn essential skills such as typing and writing in a digital environment.

As I prepare the device for her use, I’m considering ways to streamline her experience. My goal is to ensure that she can access a text editor immediately upon startup, eliminating the need for her to navigate with a mouse just yet. This would create a more effortless learning curve, allowing her to focus on developing her writing skills without the distraction of other applications.

Additionally, I’m curious about the possibility of having the Caps Lock key enabled at startup. This feature could enhance her typing experience, particularly as she begins to experiment with capital letters.

If you have any suggestions or tips on how to create a user-friendly setup for a young learner, or insights on the Caps Lock functionality, I would love to hear your thoughts!
