Reviving an Old Laptop for My Child’s First Experience with Technology

I recently took on the rewarding challenge of revitalizing my twelve-year-old laptop by installing Ubuntu. This device will soon become my four-year-old daughter’s introduction to the digital world—a fantastic opportunity for her to develop her typing and writing skills in a fun and engaging environment.

As I prepare this laptop for her use, one of my primary goals is to make it as user-friendly as possible. I’ve been thinking about how to set it up so that she can easily access a text editor without needing to navigate with a mouse just yet. My aim is to create a seamless experience for her, fostering both her curiosity and creativity.

Additionally, I have a couple of technical questions regarding the system’s setup. For instance, is it possible to configure the laptop to start with the Caps Lock enabled? This could be helpful for her initial typing exercises.

I’m excited about this journey and look forward to seeing how she interacts with her very own laptop.
