Troubleshooting Flickering Horizontal Lines on Your Laptop Screen

Hello everyone,

I’m reaching out today for assistance with an issue that a relative is experiencing on their company laptop. Despite my efforts to resolve it using various online resources, I haven’t had any luck thus far.

The primary problem is that there are persistent flickering horizontal lines appearing on the screen. I’ve attempted several solutions, including uninstalling the display driver, but unfortunately, the lines remain.

The one method I haven’t explored yet is booting the laptop in safe mode. However, this process requires a BitLocker key, and since it’s a company device, I’m unsure of how to proceed without that information.

If anyone has suggestions or additional troubleshooting steps that could potentially resolve this issue, I would greatly appreciate your input!

Thank you for your help!

    Hi there,

Flickering horizontal lines on a laptop screen can be caused by a variety of hardware and software issues. Since you’ve already tried uninstalling the display driver without success, here are some additional steps you can consider:

    • Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the screen and the connection cable between the display and the motherboard, if accessible. Loose or damaged cables can cause display issues.
    • Test External Display: Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV. If the external display works fine without flickering, the issue is likely with the laptop’s display panel or its connections.
    • Update BIOS/UEFI Firmware: Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve display-related bugs. Visit the manufacturer’s support site for your laptop model and follow their instructions carefully.
    • Boot into Safe Mode: Since you mentioned needing a BitLocker key, try to retrieve or reset it if possible (via your IT department). Booting into safe mode can help determine if the issue persists in a minimal driver environment.
    • Hardware Diagnostics: Many manufacturers provide built-in diagnostics tools (such as Dell SupportAssist or HP PC Hardware Diagnostics) that can help identify hardware faults.

    If you’re unable to boot
